I don't think anything can better explain the horrible lunches that students have to eat every day. This is a documentary by Jamie Oliver where he goes to Huntington, Virginia, and tries to start a health revolution in the schools and the city in general. Shows such as Food Revolution, if shown in the classroom, can be informational to students who want to learn more about nutrition and what foods are not healthy. This could be tied into an English class by having students write a paper on the controversial issue of obesity, nutrition, and school lunches.
A movie that could be tied in with the same effect is Supersize Me.

This is a blog by a teacher who decided to eat school lunches like her students, everyday in 2010. These types of blogs/articles are a very interesting and insightful way to see what students are consuming while at school. I know personally I would not be able to stomach a school lunch, but it is people like this teacher who may make a difference in school nutrition.

This is a website about nutrition. The link is for the section of the site that deals with teen nutrition. It is important that teens know how to make the correct nutrition choices. In the world we live in today, people are not eating healthy. This is a project that can be used in the classroom to promote healthy eating. Have every student submit a recipe along with the nutritional information related to that recipe. This would be great for an English Classroom because it is using writing. Activities like this can also be used as a fundraiser for the school. This is a project that can involve not just an English class but the entire school. There could be nutritional facts from a health class or life skills class and artwork from an art class.

Nutritional Requirements for Children
This is a website that states the nutritional requirements for children 2-18 years old and even separates the requirements girls need from the different ones boys need. This is great for students to understand what they need to eat to be healthy. Many students don't consume the correct amounts of nutritional requirements. A website like this would be able to inform students, parents and even teachers what a student needs to be healthy.
