This is a crisis that is in need of attention, there are over 600,000 students who are homeless right now and the number is continuing to grow. It is important that teachers are aware of students who are homeless or need the extra help (if they do not wish to tell that they are homeless).
This is an article about why students should not be punished for being homeless. The one case brought up in teh article describes the school system and the shelter system as being unflexable towards a girls needs and because of her homelessness she now needs to push aside her dreams because she was unable to take her graduating exam. It is not right to punish students who are homeless because being homeless is hard enough for them, let alone coming to school and getting treated unfair. There needs to be more flexability in the schools and a willingness to help students who are in tough situations.
