Language Arts Energizers

 This is a pdf file that shares different physical activity lessons that can be used in the classroom when reviewing and going over the subjects learning material. The file is for middle school language arts and many of the activities seem a little immature for a high school classroom but they serve as a good template. These activities give a teacher more ideas on how to incorporate physical activity and energizers in the classroom which is good.

 Teen Growth: Sports

This is the same website used in the Body & Development section, but the page for this link has to do with the sports aspect of teen growth. School sports are a big part of many students' lives and it is good for these students to understand the sports they are doing, injuries that may be involved and general fitness. The different pages on this website include: body building, fitness, free, injuries, steriods and fitness. Each page has a description of the topic and a Q&A section for commonly asked questions about the topic.

 Bodies In Motion

This is a thinkquest page that  "designed to improve your health, both physically and mentally. Learn what you can do to get in good shape and stay that way. Learn how to better yourself as a person and be a good companion. Learn how to deal with the issues that affect you". The basics link on this page explains the basics of fitness and health. There is also a page that can answer if you are healthy or not. From that page a common healthy diet for a person is described. This is a great site to inform students about what being healthy is and the different workouts and diets you can use to get healthy or to continue being healthy.

 Steroid Use

This is an article by USA Today that explains how schools are starting to deal with the alarming subject of steroid use.  The article talks about one specific school in California that is cracking down on students who use steroids. Apparently Steroid use in high school athletes is at an all time high and starts as early as eighth grade. The end of the article sums up with a statement that every school needs to read so that everyone can do their share to stop steroid use in high school students. ""What happened there is like a perfect scenario," the CIF's Blake says. "You have the coach telling his players what the program expects and what it won't allow, and you have the parents and the school working together. That's ideally what you'd like to have happen." This is an older article but still informative, in my perspective. This could be used in an English class as an article to teach students how to write a summary on an article.

Fitness and 13-18 Year Olds

This is an article by Kids Health that talks about what kind of fitness a 13-18 year old should be doing. Most children would rather play video games then go outside and ride a bike. It is important for parents and students to understand the importance of physical activity a child should be doing on a daily basis. It is also important to know how long a child in this age range should spend doing a physical activity.
